We went looking for 126 whitepapers. 64 tokens didn't have one.

FORTUNA's research corpus now covers 126 tokens. For 62, we read the official whitepaper. For 64 — including some of the largest names in crypto — no whitepaper exists. A missing primary document is itself a finding.

Observation

In the last 24 hours, FORTUNA's research pipeline processed 126 tokens, seeking the primary document for each: the official whitepaper, read in full, claims extracted, risks noted.

62 tokens had one. 64 did not.

The missing are not obscure. They include DOGE, SHIB, BONK, TRUMP and FLOKI — the memecoin complex, where the absence of a whitepaper is almost a genre convention. But they also include ETH, the second-largest asset in crypto, which publishes extensive documentation but no canonical whitepaper — and NEAR, whose official whitepaper URL now returns a 404. A handful sat behind rate limits during research; those are flagged in the corpus as retry candidates, not conclusions.

Interpretation

FORA-01 starts from primary documents: what did the project actually claim, in its own words, on the record? When there is no primary document, the verification chain cannot start — and that is a finding, not a gap in our process. "No whitepaper found" is a classification with content. It tells you the project's claims live in tweets, docs pages and marketing copy: venues with no versioning, no signatures and no permanence.

A market that prices dozens of assets without canonical technical documents is a market running substantially on narrative. That is not a moral judgment. It is a measurement.

What would change this view

  • Projects publish (or republish) canonical technical documents at stable URLs. We re-run the pipeline and update the classification.
  • Rate-limited sources resolve on retry — a standing task, already queued.

Until then, the library shows its work: every dossier carries its research status, and "no whitepaper found" is displayed as prominently as "whitepaper read."
