What it is
Hyperlane is a permissionless interoperability protocol for cross-chain communication. HYPER is its native token, used to secure cross-chain communication via staking and to reward network participants.
Technology & consensus
Architecture separates transport (permissionless Relayers deliver messages) from security (Validators attest Mailbox messages through configurable Interchain Security Modules); applications choose their own security model. HYPER stakers delegate economic security via a Symbiotic vault, with on-chain fraud attribution and slashing.
Token utility
Staking HYPER secures cross-chain communication: validators are selected into default ISMs based partly on HYPER stake, stakers receive stHYPER (liquid staking token) and epoch rewards, HyperStreak boosts long-term holders, and expansion rewards incentivize protocol usage.
Key risks & notes
No standalone whitepaper PDF located; used the official protocol-economics documentation as the whitepaper substitute. Risks: cross-chain exploit surface, application-selected security assumptions, validator-set concentration, relayer liveness, and interoperability competition.
