What it is
JTO is the governance token of the Jito Network, Solana's leading MEV-aware liquid staking protocol; Jito Labs also builds core Solana MEV infrastructure (a validator client run by a large share of Solana stake, a block engine, and a relayer).
Technology & consensus
Jito runs an MEV auction per block where searchers bid for transaction bundles via the Jito block engine; proceeds flow to validators and JitoSOL stakers. The protocol uses Solana Labs' audited Stake Pool program plus StakeNet/Steward for algorithmic validator selection and delegation.
Token utility
JTO is purely a governance token: holders vote on JitoSOL stake-pool fees, delegation strategies, treasury management, and protocol upgrades. Fixed 1B supply — 10% airdropped in December 2023, with 34.3% for community growth, 25% ecosystem development, 24.5% core contributors, 16.2% investors. It is explicitly not a claim on network cash flows.
Key risks & notes
No official project whitepaper was found; documentation is at jito.network/docs. Risks: governance token with no fee accrual (value rests on governance relevance), heavy Solana-concentration risk, MEV centralization critiques, large insider/investor allocations subject to vesting, and competition from other Solana LSTs and native staking.
