What it is
Seamless Protocol is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol on Coinbase's Base L2, known for Integrated Liquidity Markets (ILMs) that enable undercollateralized, purpose-specific loans (e.g., for LST or LP strategies) — a departure from standard overcollateralized lending.
Technology & consensus
Built on Base (an Ethereum L2) by contributors from Aave, Uniswap, Coinbase, Maple Finance, CertiK and Ampleforth. ILMs pair Integrated Liquidity Suppliers (community pools) with Integrated Borrowing Strategies (vaults) whose strategies are embedded in smart-contract code, so borrowed funds can only be used for pre-approved purposes — enabling undercollateralized credit with controlled risk.
Token utility
SEAM is the protocol's governance token: holders vote on protocol decisions and parameters in a community-governed system. It was distributed via airdrop based on platform usage (OG Points converted to SEAM); there was no public or private sale, and it was the first Base-ecosystem token listed on Coinbase.
Key risks & notes
No official project whitepaper was found; documentation lives at docs.seamlessprotocol.com. Risks: undercollateralized lending is a novel, less battle-tested model with real credit risk; dependence on the Base ecosystem and Coinbase relationship; small relative TVL; and competition from entrenched lenders like Aave and Morpho.
