SKALE

SKL · SKALE

UtilityPays fees on the SKALE scaling network; used in governance.

What it is

SKALE is a network of independent EVM-compatible layer-1 shards (SKALE Chains) with pooled validator security and Ethereum anchoring. End users transact gas-free via sFUEL.

Technology & consensus

Randomly assigned and rotated validator node committees run asynchronous Byzantine agreement with BLS threshold cryptography. Ethereum-based SKALE Manager contracts coordinate staking, rotation, and chain creation.

Token utility

SKL is staked by validators and delegators to secure the network, used for chain subscriptions, governance, and network rewards.

Key risks & notes

Validator and resource concentration is a risk. Bridge and interchain messaging add complexity. Inflation and reward dependence affect token value. The Ethereum SKALE Manager contracts are a trust surface. It competes with rollups and appchain platforms.

What does the holder own?

Title, redemption claim, fractional ownership, reserve exposure — or just narrative.

SKL is the hybrid utility token of the SKALE network (gas-free modular chains on Ethereum). Its three uses: paying SKALE chain subscription fees (charged to developers), network security via validator staking, and governance. It is an ERC-777 token, backward-compatible with ERC-20, with token-level delegation.

Verified
Who holds the underlying?

Needs an identifiable custodian or entity — not a wallet address or a label.

No underlying or backing exists by design — a verified negative finding. Per the whitepaper, SKL represents the right to work in the network as a validator, stake as a delegator, or rent chain resources — a bearer usage right, not a claim on reserves, with no custodian.

How are reserves checked?

Custodian records → inventory → third-party audit → supply reconciliation.

No reserves exist by design. The whitepaper defines the supply model (4.14 billion at launch of a 7 billion max via inflation, with 34.3% allocated to the Validator Community and Ecosystem) and the ERC-777 contract is auditable on-chain.

How does redemption work?

Eligibility, minimums, fees, KYC, settlement — and what happens to the token.

No redemption is promised. Validators and delegators stake SKL to earn rewards and can unstake their own tokens — withdrawal of one's own stake, not issuer redemption. End users pay no gas at all (sFUEL has no monetary value).

Who is liable if redemption fails?

A legally accountable entity and jurisdiction — not a DAO label.

The SKALE network is overseen by the N.O.D.E. Foundation (Network of Decentralized Economics), a non-profit entity based in Liechtenstein, supported by its subsidiary business arm N.O.D.E. Anstalt and by SKALE Labs, Inc. (San Francisco), per SKALE's own announcement; CoinDesk independently describes NODE as a Liechtenstein-based foundation. No redemption liability attaches to any of them.

What is SKALE's verification status?

SKALE (SKL) carries verification class A (Class A): every applicable FORA-01 question is VERIFIED — a full verification chain. What would change it: A status change would require new evidence — a status never changes from reinterpreting old evidence.
