What it is
Wormhole is a cross-chain interoperability protocol that lets contracts and dapps send messages and move assets between blockchains.
Technology & consensus
Core contracts emit cross-chain messages observed by the guardian network; messages include emitter and sequence data, with configurable confirmation depth and native-chain fees. The paper notes governance-controlled fees and manual intervention as caveats, plus a documented CosmWasm TransferFees field-order mismatch.
Token utility
W is the protocol's native token and, per official 2026 material, can be staked and delegated for multichain DAO governance through MultiGov. Fees are paid in native chain tokens per message.
Key risks & notes
Cross-chain bridge security assumptions rest on the guardian network and governance; governance-controlled fee parameters and manual intervention are documented caveats. Multi-chain bridge activity carries settlement and exploit risks.
