What it is
XYO is a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) providing trustless, cryptographically verified location data to smart contracts.
Technology & consensus
Per the official whitepaper ("The XY Oracle Network: The Proof-of-Origin Based Cryptographic Location Network"), XYO is a decentralized oracle network for location data using a "proof of origin" cryptographic scheme. The network is composed of Sentinels (location-data collectors, including Bluetooth "XY Findables" beacons), Bridges (data relayers), Archivists (data storage), and Diviners (answer providers) that together deliver trustless location attestations to smart contracts. XYO later introduced the XYO Layer One (XL1) blockchain with its own block/step reward mechanics.
Token utility
XYO is the ERC-20 utility token used to pay for queries and data on the XYO Network: data consumers pay in XYO, and network participants (Sentinels, Archivists, Diviners) earn XYO for contributing location data and answers. The XL1 chain adds staking and block-producer rewards for the newer XL1 token.
Key risks & notes
XYO is an older project (2018 whitepaper) that has since expanded scope (including the XL1 Layer One chain), so the original paper no longer reflects the full current vision. The project has depended heavily on partnerships and third-party node operators; long-term token utility hinges on real enterprise demand for decentralized location data.
